Construction can be stressful…for both the customer and the contractor.  As much as we try to make it a stress-free process for our customers, we understand that there will be stress involved in the process.  Our customers are stressed about getting the house they want within budget and within the set schedule.  As the builder, we’re stressed about providing all of those things.

At Jorgenson Builders we try really hard to make sure we’re all on the same page at the beginning.  We all understand where we’re starting from and what the end result will be.  Then the job starts, and of course there are changes.  This is fine.  We understand that our  customers are making a lot of decisions and there are bound to be things that change.  But then, this is sometimes where we run into problems.

For example, a customer might make excavating changes the day after the excavator finishes.  This is ok, and we can still help you, but we’ll have to wait for the excavator to come back and push all of the other subs back.  This will push your schedule back and your budget up, which are things we try to help you understand as you’re making decisions.

Sometimes customers will pick finishes for their house that cost more than the allowance in their budget.  Again, this is fine.  You can spend your money how you want, but it will cost you more money.  And sometimes your choice will also take more time.  Again, we try to communicate all of this to you at the time of your decision so its not a surprise.

So, as you build your house, try to look at the big picture.  The changes you make will effect the cost and they will effect the schedule.  As our customers are more realistic about what they want and how that might change things, we can gladly help them make sure they have the house they want.  We start to run into trouble when customers expect more for the same price and within the same time-frame.

Our job, as the builder, is to communicate changes with you so that you can see the big picture.  The customer’s job is to be understanding of the big picture and how changes effect everything.  If we’re both on the same page, we can save everyone a lot of stress!
