No matter what we’re doing, sometimes managing our expectations is hard.  We want to hope for the best, but at the same time we need to be realistic in what we expect.  This applies to construction as well.

Here’s an example of how you might have unrealistic expectations with construction:  You have a budget of $500,000.  As we start building your house you get upset that your budget isn’t going to get you that million dollar house.  You really wanted the same type of finishes as your neighbor’s house.

We’re frequently surprised when our customers are upset that the finishes in their house is not the same as a higher dollar house.  When we meet with you initially we work with you to come up with a list of specifications for your house.  As we get bids, this spec sheet is what we work off of.  The subcontractors give us numbers based on the specs we give them and the specs we give them will match your budget.  A painter is not going to bid the same level of paint work on a million dollar house as he will on a half-million dollar house.  Its just not the same standard.  This applies to drywall, trim, tile, etc.  Think of it as buying a Honda versus a Lexus.  Both cars are nice, but you’ll definitely expect to see more in the Lexus than you will in the Honda.

At Jorgenson Builders we build high-quality houses no matter what your budget is.  There are some corners that we will never cut to save you money.  That said, the finishes and spec level of a $500,000 house is not going to be the same as a million dollar house that we build.  If you start the build process with realistic expectations according to your budget, we guarantee you’ll be happy with the end result.
