Choosing who will build your home is a big decision.  Its important that your builder not only builds houses well, but gets along with you as well.  You’re going to be spending a lot of time with them.  We sometimes talk to people who have decided on a builder but then call because they’re having problems even before their job starts.  Just because you’ve decided on a builder doesn’t mean you’re absolutely stuck with them.  If things are looking bad even before your job starts we guarantee it will just get worse.  Here are some things to be worried about:

• Your budget is on a single piece of paper with no detail at all.  This probably means they spent no time on it which means you won’t end up even close to that number.
• You’ve been trying to get a hold of them for a week and can’t get them to return your calls.  Its important to be able to get a hold of your builder.  This will definitely not get better as your project continues.
• Your builder told you they would start one month ago.  Sometimes this happens, but a good builder should be on top of their schedule and be able to tell you pretty accurately when your job will start.
